Hua Guoqing's personality is enthusiastic and loves to talk and laugh. He quickly became familiar with Teacher Lin from County No. 1 Middle School, as they often met during movie screenings, treating her just like Principal Liu and other teachers from County No. 1 Middle School.

However, this planted a seed in Teacher Lin Yajing's heart.

During her primary and secondary school years, Lin Yajing was quite aloof. Her parents came from Northeast China to support the third-line construction in a second-tier city in the southwest. Both of her parents were teachers at a school for children of workers, living in a different social circle from the locals.

The Lin family had five daughters, and Lin Yajing was the fourth.

All five sisters in the Lin family were very beautiful, known as the "Five Golden Flowers" in the factory dormitory area.

Except for the youngest sister who stayed with their parents and became a cashier in the finance department, the other four sisters gradually went to the countryside to work as educated youth.

In the 1977 college entrance examination, Lin Yajing's scores only allowed her to attend a vocational school, so she went to a regional normal school.

Although she was not very satisfied, Lin Yajing had loved reading novels since childhood. In middle school, she always ranked first in composition, and when she graduated from the normal school, she was assigned to a county middle school as a Chinese teacher, which she was very pleased with.

Like the protagonist Lin Daojing in "Song of Youth," fate arranged for Lin Yajing an unsatisfactory marriage, and she silently struggled in her heart after getting married.

Since the first time she saw Hua Guoqing come to show movies on the school playground, it was like a lightning bolt piercing through Lin Yajing's troubled heart.

After getting to know Hua Guoqing, every time the army showed movies on the school playground, Teacher Lin always arrived early, watching Hua Guoqing and the projectionist set up the screen and projector.

Many people came early to wait for the movie, and while others used small stools to occupy the best spots, Teacher Lin always placed her stool next to the projector.

At first, Hua Guoqing didn't pay much attention to this female teacher, but when he heard the teachers at the school call her Lin Daojing, it caught his attention. Moreover, in this small county, the locals spoke the local dialect, but this beautiful female teacher spoke standard Mandarin with a Northeast accent.

The two quickly became familiar. Hua Guoqing's outgoing and cheerful personality, combined with Teacher Lin's eagerness to learn and ask questions, made them connect well. They were both literature enthusiasts, and their main topics of conversation were either related to literature or Beijing.

When Lin Yajing was in primary school, her parents took the five sisters back to Northeast China to visit relatives. They stayed a few extra days in Beijing while transferring trains and took the children to places like Tiananmen Square and the Summer Palace.

This interaction made Lin Yajing very happy.

Lin Yajing got married relatively early, marrying the year after graduating from the normal school.

Her husband was a classmate from middle school who had also gone to the countryside as an educated youth; his family was local and lived near the factory.

In the autumn of 1977, after Lin Yajing was admitted to a vocational school, this male classmate enlisted in the army from the countryside. He served as a driver in the army and returned home after three years of service, eager to marry Lin Yajing.

After Hua Guoqing and Teacher Lin got to know each other, their relationship quickly heated up.

In 1982, Hua Guoqing from the infantry regiment's political office film projection team submitted a divorce application to the organization, but it was rejected by the political commissar and the director of the political office, and his divorce report was subsequently shelved. Soon after, Hua Guoqing was unexpectedly transferred to the division's film team.

A few months after Hua Guoqing was transferred to the division, Pan Jun was interviewing various infantry regiments. In the political office of the regiment where Hua Guoqing was stationed, he inadvertently heard about a cadre's divorce report that had not been approved. Upon closer inspection, he found that the applicant was actually Hua Guoqing, which surprised him as he had never heard Hua Guoqing mention this matter before.

In May 1979, Hua Guoqing submitted a marriage application in the army, which was accepted. Following the procedure, a letter was sent to the woman's unit, and his marriage was ultimately approved.

Hua Guoqing's wife, Meng Lili, was his fiancée whom he met before being promoted. She was introduced to him by his elder sister when he returned to Beijing to visit his parents and was a teacher at the army compound kindergarten. They got along well and received recognition from both families, so they got married.

However, one day two years later, the regiment's political office received Hua Guoqing's divorce report, which was puzzling as they had just gotten married not long ago.

But just ten days later, Meng Lili unexpectedly visited the army with their daughter, crying to the director of the political office and the regiment's political commissar that Hua Guoqing was having an affair with a female teacher named Lin at the army base, which drew the political commissar's high attention and demanded a thorough investigation.

Through a special investigation by the regiment's political office cadre section, it was learned that Hua Guoqing and Meng Lili's romantic history and the divorce application were quite complicated. Their feelings before marriage were average, but they rushed into marriage due to an unexpected pregnancy. After marriage, Hua Guoqing met and was attracted to the local female teacher Lin Yajing, concealing his marital status while developing feelings for her.

However, this matter occurred outside the military camp, and apart from a few people in the film team, no one in the regiment knew about it. Fortunately, it did not cause any bad influence on the army at that time.

After the regiment's cadre section reported the investigation results to the director of the political office, he immediately reported to the regiment's political commissar and military leader, Deputy Political Commissar Pan, who was also Pan Jun's father.

Due to Hua Guoqing's family background and being a recently recognized advanced individual at the military district's film projection work commendation conference, both the military political department and the division's political department film team wanted to transfer him from the regiment. This added more complexity and uncertainty to the entire incident.

Pan Jun also discussed Hua Guoqing's matter with his father over the phone. Both father and son agreed that the responsibility lay with Hua Guoqing, who had been bewitched. Director Pan instructed Pan Jun to go to the regiment to talk to Hua Guoqing.

When Pan Jun met Hua Guoqing, he found Hua Guoqing full of grievances.

Hua Guoqing: "Brother Jun, you finally came. It's not that serious. Teacher Lin and I are just ordinary friends; we just get along well. During my visit home, we wrote a few letters and made a few long-distance calls. Meng Lili found out and kept asking me why. I told her the truth that we are just ordinary friends, but she wouldn't let it go. She even went to my parents' place to cry and make a fuss, making a big deal out of nothing, disregarding my family's and her unit's reputation, which upset the whole family."

He continued: "This has been going on for more than half a year, causing my mother to have two heart attacks. I have decided to divorce her; a girl who grew up in an alley is too stubborn, and I can't live like this anymore. This is my personal matter, and I didn't want to bother you, Brother Jun."

After learning the truth, Pan Jun returned to the division and reported to his father over the phone.

Deputy Political Commissar Pan said after hearing this: "At this point, I have a few points to make. Let Guoqing decide about the divorce; we can't interfere. If Guoqing leaves the regiment, don't let him go to the military film team; that would be troublesome under my nose. Let him go to your division's film team, and he must not have any further entanglements with this female teacher. Once he is in the division, you must keep an eye on Guoqing and ensure that such matters do not happen again. I will communicate with the division about his transfer."

Thus, Hua Guoqing ultimately divorced and was transferred to the division's political department film team.
